Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has been singled out as the prime candidate to become the first big sale at the club this summer, due in part to the stasis over his contract negotiations, but also his value on the market. The Catalan side are in desperate need of income this summer, and player sales look the most likely avenue.

While Araujo and Barcelona maintain publicly that they do not want to separate, something backed up by Cadena SER, there is little sign of a solution on the horizon. If they cannot renew his contract, then Barcelona will contemplate the Uruguayan’s sale. Manchester United are reportedly willing to make an offer , but the same outlet claim that ‘there will be an offer’ from Bayern Munich this summer.

At this stage it remains a discussion between agents, but the German side do intend to make an offer for the 24-year-old – the sum mentioned is around €80m. While Barcelona would prefer to sell the likes of Frenkie de Jong or Robert Lewandowski, neither is willing to leave – implicitly meaning that Araujo would be open to it.

At Bayern, there is talk that Thomas Tuchel could continue at the club next season, which would bode well for Barcelona’s accountants. Tuchel is believed to be one of the main backers of a deal for Araujo, and if he stays, then presumably he would sanction the move, as he did when Bayern opened talks with Araujo in January.
